Kultur Deutschland - Culture of Germany



Germany is in the centre of Europe not only Geographically, but also in the terms of Politics and Economy.

The culture of Germany has been shaped by the major intellectual & popular current in the Europe both, religious and secular.

From an onlooker's viewpoint; Germany has good beer (and oktoberfest is very famous for it), bratwurst (sausages), making holidays, Christmas & the Christmas market, different types of bread and cheese and my most favourite one Schokolade (chocolates) this makeup a key part of the country's identity.

On closer inspection, there is a large selection of dishes, drinks, history and leisure activities, which are also important aspects of their culture.

"Most Germans neither live to work nor work to live."

But many Germans think that the enjoyment is a melodious. The average working week in Germany is around 35 to 40 hrs one of the lowest in Europe.

Also German are passionate about travelling specially International travelling. I also traveled several countries of Europe with my host parents that was fun.

Taking a foreign holidays is an important part of their lifestyle. In fact Germany spends more per capital on international travelling than other European countries.

The favorite holiday destinations of Germans are Italy, Spain, Austria. The  country is sharing nine lands borders with other countries, it's really easy to take a European trip from Germany.

Also, Germans are crazy for football, the hundred of thousands watch football, ice hockey & handball games every week.

Most of Germans have Abendbrot (dinner) together with family after long working day. That is most precise time.

Alcohol consumption is fairly high & is enjoyed in both bars and home. The most popular drink of country is beer & the country has Festival for the same which is known as Oktoberfest. This fest is celebrated in October. Oktoberfest of Münich is famous. In this Festival Big Glasses of beer/ Cans of beer are sold in Oktoberfest fair. They also celebrate Halloween & Easter.

The country that invented the modern motor car is considered the birth place of Mercedes - Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche & Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW). Gosh I love all of them.


About German traditions, evening supper 'Kaffee und Kuchen' I think evening supper is same in every country of Europe. The equivalent of an English evening tea where by families and friends stop working and come together in evening for coffee and cakes.
